25 watts my ass, this thing is loud, even with 6 ohm speakers that recommend 80 watts or so. I’ll see how it does with 8 ohm speakers probably this weekend.
So, I got this thing for free a couple days ago, it’s an Electra EDS-299, and all I can figure out is it was sold at a place called Electronic Distributors based in Vancouver in the 60s and 70s. Other than that, it doesn’t exist on the internet. There’s some speculation on the same thread I found that it could be related to Lafayette amps sold by Lafayette Radio Electronics in the states around the same time.
I opened it up yesterday and it was dust-free, and all looked well. Toshiba transistors and Nippon Chemi-Con caps, all very original looking. Now I have it driving my PSBs, and doing a very fine job. Similar in sound quality to my Sansui 210, and at least twice the power.
I like it.

I love finds like this. Makes me want to go garage sale hunting...
My 1 watt (guitar) amp can get the cops called on me pretty easily

Oh yeah, tube watts are a whole other ball game. In high school we had an old Fender Twin for some reason, even in the gym you couldn’t turn it past 3 or so. God that thing was loud.

This is a thing of beauty. I love the old stuff. My set is 35 years old, and my Dad’s is 10 years older than that. Built to last and built to rock.

I love vintage audio gear. The newest things I have are the PSB 40MKII speakers in the photo, and my big Infinity Kappa 7.1s. That may change soon when I finally bite the bullet and spend a bit on a good DAC.

And yet every single teen who picks up a guitar eventually wants a Marshall stack haha

I have my Mom’s old 5 watt solid state SuperScope amp from 1970-something. It still sounds fantastic.
Neat amp!

I had a JCM900 and Orange 4x12 reissue and the thing was fantastically loud.

Nice grab. Never heard of the brand either but obviously quality.
